Brand Marketing Director at Girlfriend (Los Angeles)

About the Position

The Brand Marketing Director will lead our brand marketing track. In this role you will be responsible for defining the brand, understanding the consumer, and telling great brand stories that resonate with that consumer. You will manage small marketing and creative teams to oversee  the strategy and execution for all brand-led initiatives to drive traffic and build community. This position will report to GM and will touch every communication channel. 

Our ideal candidate is a brand-first, highly adaptable marketer who can steward the brand across all key touch points but also has a strong appreciation (and experience with) data.  This role is a unique opportunity to own and evolve the brand awareness initiatives of a digitally native, direct-to-consumer brand (with some key wholesale relationships).

What You’ll Do

  • Brand Management: day-to-day stewardship of the brand across all marketing channels and touchpoints, in partnership with the GM and Digital Marketing Director. Collaborate with cross functional teams - from digital marketing and merchandiser to creative to aggregate insights and develop strategies and content to increase brand awareness (paid, owned, and earned).

  • Partnerships & Collaborations: develop on-brand marketing partnerships & collaborations, both ongoing and project based, as well as vet inbound partnership, sponsorship, and collaboration opportunities.

  • Influencer & Community Development: develop and rollout plans for building and fostering a community around the Girlfriend brand to generate word-of-mouth buzz and grassroots awareness.

  • Public Relations: secure and lead agency relationship and manage all press and media programs from briefing through to execution. 

  • Events & Activations: end-to-end management of brand events, activations, and sponsorships to increase brand awareness, foster community and support business goals.

  • Social Media: hire for and collaborate on the content, planning, strategy and growth of organic channels.


  • Responsible for managing and communicating brand marketing strategy to grow brand awareness, drive traffic and maintain the brand message consistent throughout specific markets including ecommerce and wholesale and partnerships.

  • Own, manage and develop the marketing calendar ensuring campaigns are on-brand, executed on-time, and optimized for experience, press coverage, engagement, and sales impact.

  • Manage the creative team on direction for all digital and physical assets.

  • Own clear & timely communication around key marketing decisions, project milestones, and plans, helping to keep every project organized and driving forward.

  • Drive innovative idea generation by monitoring trends in social, digital and mobile media and exploring new tools, trends and applications.

  • Execute creative, campaign and content solutions from initial concept to release in the market (including collaborating on creative concepts, direction, on-set art direction, post-production, etc).

  • Work collaboratively with Site Merchandise and Creative teams to optimize site assets and customer site experience.


  • 5+ years strategic execution experience in a creative environment

  • Ability to collaborate well with others across the organization and thrive in a fast-paced and highly-fluid environment

  • Experience producing photoshoots and extensive knowledge of photographers, locations and studios

  • A true creative with an understanding and alignment to the Girlfriend visual language as well as a creative eye and genuine curiosity for innovative opportunities to connect with our community

  • Experienced in writing insightful briefs that guide teams to innovative work

  • Proven track record of successfully transforming brand strategy into creative strategy that guides successful in-market work

  • Experienced in and comfortable working cross-functionally with various key stakeholders 

  • Exceptional presentation skills with the ability to clearly articulate your rationale and evoke excitement with your recommendations

  • A comprehensive knowledge of activewear and fashion, including current trends, news, key figures, and market
